This year’s theme is focused on ‘Changing the Narrative on Suicide’ with the aim of reducing stigma and encouraging conversation to prevent suicide. More information can be found here (who.int/campaigns/world-suicide-prevention-day/world-suicide-prevention-day-2024).

Data from the Office of National Statistics shows that the risk of suicide for those working in the construction industry is 1.6 times higher than the national average*.
NICEIC is committed to highlighting key resources and guidance available for NICEIC-certified businesses.

NICEIC works closely with The Electrical Industries Charity (EIC) (electricalcharity.org), which provides free mental health support to tradespeople in the energy and electrical sector, and their families. The charity provides a wide range of support and guidance including mental health support and offers a number of training programmes for those working in the sector focused on equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to navigate mental health.

The EIC’s free online learning platform for students and apprentices, which is sponsored by NICEIC, offers resources aimed at providing mental health support, including suicide first aid.

THE WIRE webinar series, which is available to NICEIC-certified businesses and is available online here, (https://bit.ly/3zcq8SZ) also provides several episodes focused on supporting positive mental health and wellbeing including sessions led by NICEIC’s Learning and Wellbeing Manager, Danny Mouskovias.

More information, resources and support can also be found via Samaritans website (samaritans.org).
