SkillELECTRIC is a renowned, annual competition which showcases exceptional levels of practical and technical abilities, awarding the UK's top electrical apprentices and students.

As a key delivery partner for SkillELECTRIC 2024, NICEIC has collaborated closely with eight talented finalists, equipping them with the skills necessary to excel in the upcoming competition.

The finalists will showcase their skills in a challenging three-day practical installation task, adhering to strict time constraints and in-depth marking criteria. This year’s competition will feature an electric vehicle charging task, building on the success of the solar PV task in last year’s final.

To prepare the finalists, all eight competitors attended NICEIC’s electric vehicle charging installation awareness training course . The course equipped the finalists with the fundamental knowledge of the supply, installation, and protection requirements of electric vehicle charging points (EVCP), ahead of the finals later this year.

Sam Donaghy, NICEIC Head of Technical Advice and Practice, and a member of the judging panel, said: “We are thrilled to support the future workforce of the electrical industry by training and nurturing talented individuals like these finalists”.

“SkillELECTRIC provides an invaluable platform for showcasing their expertise and contributing to the growth of sustainable technologies. We are confident the competitors will deliver exceptional performances and inspire the next generation of electricians."

Following completion of the training course, Charlie Moore, a SkillELECTRIC finalist, commented: “I found the training course very informative and now have a better understanding and knowledge on the process and installation of electrical vehicle charging points. This course has enabled me to prepare for the SkillELECTRIC finals task and I now feel confident after the training I have received from NICEIC.”

The SkillELECTRIC 2024 competition will take place across the week of 18 November at Oldham College. The winner will be crowned the prestigious SkillELECTRIC 2024 champion and may progress to represent the UK at Europeon and World trade skills events around the globe.
