NICEIC is proud to support SkillELECTRIC, the premier skills competition for the UK’s electrical industry The registration window for SkillELECTRIC 2026 is now open and closes on 27 March.
SkillELECTRIC is part of the WorldSkills UK competition network and gives an opportunity to talented students and apprentices to showcase their talent on a national stage. This year, the SkillELECTRIC entry stage is an app-based, timed and interactive online task designed to test candidates’ electrotechnical knowledge. Applicants who are successful at the entry stage will be invited to take part in one of nine regional heats taking place across the UK during May and June.
The 2025 competition saw Ellis Stevenson, a recently qualified electrician with NICEIC-certified business, Cambell and McHardy, crowned as the SkillELECTRIC’s first female champion. Ellis has since taken on the role of WorldSkills UK Skills Champion, helping other students and apprentices with guidance on the opportunities available to those beginning a career in the electrotechnical sector.
NICEIC Head of Training, Alex Robinson commented: "NICIEC is proud to support SkillELECTRIC. The competition is a great way to kickstart your electrotechnical career, in the skills and competences it instils, and the opportunities it can open up. Most of all, it shows just how much talent there is in the sector. I encourage NICEIC-certified businesses to get behind their apprentices, encourage them to get their SkillELECTRIC applications in, and support them throughout the competition journey."
SkillELECTRIC 2024 bronze medallist and WorldSkills UK squad member for Electrical Installation, Johnny Gough commented: “If you’re thinking about entering, go for it! The competition really tests you and will definitely help you to improve as an electrician. It’s tough and it gets you out of your comfort zone but the opportunities it can open up are huge.”
