The Prime Minister has today confirmed that new homes and buildings such as supermarkets and workplaces, as well as those undergoing major renovation, will be required to install electric vehicle charge points from next year under new legislation.
When commenting on the announcement, John O’Neill, NICEIC and ELECSA’s Director of Technical Excellence, said:
“Today’s announcement is excellent news for the electrotechnical industry who will be called upon to safely install the required charging infrastructure.
“While the announcement lacks detail, it clearly demonstrates that the workstream is secure which in-turn aids electrical businesses with planning.
“Adding this level of reassurance will also encourage investment in task-specific training a vital step which will help to ensure the rollout is delivered safely and in-line with demand.”
