Competent Person Scheme

Save time on notifying work with the NICEIC Competent Person Scheme.

We support contractors working across the building services sectors in meeting their duty to notify work under the Building Regulations.

We can cover for Building Regulations notification in gas, heating and hot water, ventilation, plumbing, and microgeneration. (For contractors only doing electrical work we recommend NICEIC’s Domestic Installer Scheme)

When you’re registered under the NICEIC Competent Persons Scheme, you can:

  • Save time. You don’t have to notify the local authority in advance of the work. Simply notify your work online with us, and we issue a building compliance certificate to the customer – and advise the relevant local authority that work has taken place

  • Improve the service you offer your customers. When you’re registered under the Competent Person Scheme, consumers benefit, as building control charges will not be payable. You can offer a complete service to your customer

Existing NICEIC registered contractors can take advantage of reduced prices by combining their scheme assessments.

New applicants can also combine this scheme with other NICEIC schemes, such as our MCS Contractor Scheme.
