Have you ever wondered how much it costs to hire an electrician in Edinburgh?

Well, the cost of hiring an electrician in Edinburgh depends on the type of work you need done, making it difficult to give an exact price. Instead, customers should always request a quote from an electrician before approving any electrical work, to compare costs and credentials.

To join NICEIC, 'qualified supervisors' - individuals in a business responsible for technical compliance - must have a recognised level 3 vocational qualification, such as the qualification earned at the end of an electrical apprenticeship. Depending on what work your electrician does, they might also be required to hold qualifications in certain technologies, such as EV charging or heat pumps.
To verify that your chosen electrician is registered, ask them to provide details of their business's registration with their certification body (for example, NICEIC). Be wary if the electrician's business isn't listed or their details aren't correct. If you're unsure, you can call the certification body's customer service line to verify your electrician's details with them.
Unless you're changing a light bulb, all electrical work in your home should be done by a qualified, competent electrician. They will have the knowledge and experience required to complete your job safely and in line with BS 7671, the British Standard for electrical installations.

For reassurance, remember to always use an NICEIC-registered electrician:
  • It's safer for you and your home.
  • You get peace of mind.
  • You'll save time and money
Before you hire an electrician, you should ask about:
  • Registration with a recognised certification body like NICEIC - this will mean they have all the right qualifications to complete the work safely
  • Experience with similar projects
  • Proof of any insurance coverage/warranties for their work.
Businesses certified with NICEIC must have public liability insurance of at least £2 million and, if they carry out electrical installation condition reports (EICRs), they'll also need £250k of professional indemnity insurance.

If they employ staff, they should also have employers' liability insurance. These insurance policies provide essential financial protection for both electricians and their customers.
