Green Deal Installers
The Green Deal Installer will be at the frontline of delivering energy efficient measures to consumers.
From October this year companies will have the opportunity to install over thirty different energy efficiency measures into a new and unique market across the domestic and commercial sectors.
Supported by the £1.3bn Energy Company Obligation and the Green Investment Bank, Green Deal is set to boost spending on the retrofitting of properties. The government estimates that around £21bn in capital spending will take place by 2022
Only an authorised Green Deal Installer can install energy efficiency improvements under the Green Deal finance mechanism.
What are the opportunities for a Green Deal Installer?
Green Deal Installers will work closely with Green Deal providers to provide the energy efficient measures on a home or business. Once a property has had an assessment and the finance for measures has been approved, installation is the next step. We expect such opportunities to create extra work for those appropriately approved to carry out the work.
One of the benefits of the Green Deal is that it is not dependant on subsidy or government grant, it is financed through private capital and driven by consumer demand.
The Green Deal is a vital part of the government’s Green Jobs agenda (creating 65,000 jobs in the low carbon economy) therefore there is a focus on ensuring the Green Deal works for small to medium sized companies. It is anticipated that this will be fully addressed when the findings of the Green Deal Consultation are published.
How do I become a Green Deal Installer?
You can become a Green Deal Installer by having gained certification to the Green Deal Installer Standard (PAS 2030) by a Green Deal Certification Body (NICEIC). NICEIC are currently undergoing the accreditation process and we hope to launch our Green Deal certification in mid to late 2012.
Once you are successful your company’s details will be added to the central register of Green Deal Installers, which is managed by the Green Deal Oversight Body.
The certification process ensures everyone complies with the Green Deal Code of Practice, uses competent persons and operates robust business processes.
